About Piri Reis University

Founded in 2008 by the Turkish Maritime Education Foundation (TÜDEV), Piri Reis University is Türkiye’s first and only university with a maritime specialization — a distinction built on a longer institutional history, tracing back to TÜDEV’s Maritime Training Center, established in 1995. In 2003, the foundation’s General Assembly decided to carry that mission forward at higher-education level, laying the groundwork for the university that opened its doors in Tuzla five years later.

The campus sits directly on the coast in Tuzla, on Istanbul’s Asian side — in the middle of Türkiye’s largest shipbuilding and maritime industry cluster, and a short distance from the Bosphorus shipping lanes that carry a significant share of the world’s seaborne trade. It’s a setting that puts the university’s maritime and logistics programs a few minutes from the industry they study: naval architecture and marine engineering (established 2010), maritime vocational programs (offered since 2014 across eleven associate-degree tracks), and a growing offering in logistics, supply chain, and international trade. For a congress on maritime supply chain resilience, there are few more fitting hosts: a university founded specifically to serve Türkiye’s maritime sector, on a campus where that sector is, quite literally, next door.
